Conidia Fusion: A Mechanism for Fungal Adaptation to Nutrient-Poor Habitats

نویسندگان

چکیده

Conidia fusion (CF) is a commonly observed structure in fungi. However, it has not been systematically studied. This study examined 2457 strains of nematode-trapping fungi (NTF) to explore the species specificity, physiological period, and significance CF. The results demonstrated that only six Arthrobotrys can form CF among sixty-five tested NTF species. studies on model oligospora (DL228) showed occurred both shed unshed plus mature immature conidia. Additionally, conidia rate (CFR) increased significantly with decrease nutrient concentration habitats. body (CFB) produced by A. revealed more contained CFB, faster denser mycelia CFB germinated weak medium soil plates. On one hand, rapid mycelial extension beneficial for quickly find new sources habitats uneven distribution. other dense mycelium increases contact area environment, improving absorption efficiency, which conducive survival environment. In addition, all produce smaller Based this observation, may be strategy balance defects (nutrient deficiency) caused miniaturization.

Adaptation to Marginal Habitats

■ Abstract The ability to adapt to marginal habitats, in which survival and reproduction are initially poor, plays a crucial role in the evolution of ecological niches and species ranges. Adaptation to marginal habitats may be limited by genetic, developmental, and functional constraints, but also by consequences of demographic characteristics of marginal populations. Marginal populations are o...

Nutrient-rich versus nutrient-poor foods for depressed patients based on Iranian Traditional Medicine resources

Objectives: Considering the positive effects of certain nutrients on depression, increasingly prevalent in the contemporary societies, we investigated the nutritional content of prescribed and prohibited foodstuffs for depressed patients in Iranian Traditional Medicine resources. Materials and Methods: In order to conduct the study, credible sources of Iranian Traditional Medicine were primaril...

Melanocortin 4 receptor mutations contribute to the adaptation of cavefish to nutrient-poor conditions.

Despite recent advances in the understanding of morphological evolution, the genetic underpinnings of behavioral and physiological evolution remain largely unknown. Here, we study the metabolic changes that evolved in independently derived populations of the Mexican cavefish, Astyanax mexicanus. A hallmark of cave environments is scarcity of food. Cavefish populations rely almost entirely on sp...

Convergence towards higher leaf mass per area in dry and nutrient-poor habitats has different consequences for leaf life span

1 Leaf life span (LL) and leaf mass per area (LMA) are fundamental traits in the carbon economy of plants, representing the investment required per unit leaf area (LMA) and the duration of the resulting benefit (LL). Species on dry and infertile soils converge towards higher LMA. It has been generally assumed that this allows species from low-resource habitats to achieve longer average leaf lif...
